Social Media is Relational, Not Transactional

Relational in what sense? and perspectives? People need to re-set their brains about what is social media all about in today’s generation and the 21st Century. This is just another impersonal form of medium where people can interact and not necessarily relating at certain degree with each other.

Joshua Leatherman has written an article highlighting the idea that social media “produces the highest return-on-relationship, with the lowest return on-salesmanship.”  He lists five ways to move to that relational type of social media. My favorite?

  1. Tell a story. Too often updates sound like they were developed to scroll across the bottom of CNN.  You will find little engagement if you don’t develop your narrative and become a master storyteller.
