Excellent tips  for every employer.

Understanding these and relative areas is very esential for anyone who is managing an expat remotely.

3. Be aware of your body language / nonverbal communication [Quick hints for non-traditional Hot Yoga teachers]

Non-verbals are quite significant forms of communication – http://ideasnconversations.blogspot.com/2012/08/non-verbal-versus-verbal-language.html

Four Essential Techniques Lead to Learning Language Competency of Global Business with Results

There are ways in improving and learning the global Business Language – the English Proficiency.  You acquire the highest level of Business English Proficiency instead of acquiring English skills. The latter is focused on measured and tactical execution of grammatically-based language use.

While Business English, is integrated with Communication Competency and Proficiency. It illustrates the holistic understanding about the English language, cultural implications, usage of expressions and terminologies, its functions within specific utterances for a given setting in either business or personal.  IdeasN’s Coaches have the competency in developing realistic Critical Thinking  abilities. By having this ability, it becomes your important differentiator as a professional or an individual. Your capabilities in influencing, creativity and effectiveness in communication will follow. We coach you from the most basic up to achieving the highest level of Proficiency that you are capable of.

The following techniques are offered as tips for anyone to self-learn the basics that will develop your confidence to eventually become better communicator.

Four Essential Techniques in English Learning Lead to Results
1
Learn and create adequate English vocabulary supply with understanding:
Read materials that were written in English such as websites, blogs, articles, books, newspapers, journals, magazines, researches, technical essays, industry news and English dictionary with diacritical marks. By spending at least 30 minutes a day, you will learn new technical words.

An effective learning tool is to keep a small pocket booklet on your side when reading. Write every new word that you will come across. Then take a dictionary and understand the actual meaning of the word. Go back to the original material that you were reading and understand how the word was used. Every writer uses words differently depending on the setting of the material. Many use simple words, complex terminologies, idiomatic expressions or slangs that relate to the circumstances illustrated in the material.

It is essential to pay attention on how words are formed, connected, described and expanded with time and locations.  These are all important functions of words; including their arrangement. The key is to understand how they are being used. When in doubt, always seek the assistance of a Coach who can explain to you the linguistic features used.
2
Develop a ‘Linguistic Ear’ that is focused on distinct sounds and enunciation:
Listen carefully to different Agents of English sounds. When listening to an English speaker, train your ear to carefully listen on the distinct sounds of vowels and consonants within words. It is somehow difficult for a non-English speaker to train one’s ear to differentiate distinct sounds without the help of an experienced Language Coach or Teacher.  Besides people, other agents of sounds are devices that broadcast people’s voices speaking English language like televisions, radios, movies, YouTube videos, electronic devices and gadgets. When listening to these devices, practice to be attentive with how words are enunciated or pronounced.

Please note, that every speaker has a unique and distinct way in producing an English sound either vowel or consonant. Understanding the cultural background and its implications to speaking will be essential. Somehow, many use the English dictionary as their point of reference in learning the linguistic sounds but the speaker was enunciating it differently. Regional differences and locations of English speakers also play a role.

It is important to keep in mind that when learning English, you need to understand your current location, its regional difference from others, and how people say certain things and differ from other English speakers in other locations – this is a dialectical difference.  There is no one sound that fits all when it comes to sounds of the non-formal English language usage. In a formal environment, majority of people try to use the formal sounds of English vowels and consonants, however certain regions cannot be avoided due to regional accents. An English Language Coach helps learners to train their linguistic ear effectively by modeling the actual sounds, word formations, enunciations and stresses of words.
3
Use of technical vocabulary, phrases, and conversational utterances:
To become at least a good conversationalist, one must demonstrate adequate technical vocabulary, phrases and appropriate utterances when engaging in a conversation.  The techniques 1 and 2 above helped the learner to acquire simple ways in developing a supply of words and understanding sounds. When engaging to a conversation with other English speakers, you are expected to use and show your knowledge and proficiency level in exchanging ideas, thoughts, commentaries, share opinions on certain topics that are being discussed.  Practice makes perfect in the best option to become conversationalist.

When you are not confident, accelerate your focus and practice techniques 1 and 2. Practice with friends and family members. Read materials, then discuss the topics, use words and phrases that you come across in different materials. Pay attention on how the sounds must be enunciated. Most people who like to become proficient at their best hire an English Language Coach who will evaluate their progress and engaging activities. Hearing an unbiased feedback will help learners to gain better and faster results of higher proficiency level.
4
Immersing oneself in real-time conversational situations:
The best option to learn and validate your authentic sounds, usage and practical expressions and utterances would be to engage in a real time conversations with other English speakers. Do not be afraid to commit mistakes. Everyone commits an error – learn it from experience.  When you come across of someone rude in terms of correcting your errors, don’t give up, ignore the rudeness and don’t speak to that person again until you are better to square of.  Find others who will understand and supportive to your learning process. Most importantly is to enjoy the moments when sharing ideas and conversations.  During this event, you are technically validating your proficiency in comprehension about other’s ideas.

It is important to validate your proficiency in using the English language in a specific time, event, location, and setting whether personal or in business.  The quicker you can engage in meaningful conversations the better you become as a conversationalist. The more practice you will engage, the higher your proficiency will achieve, up to a point that you will be speaking like Native Speakers. Speak to your Coach often and solicit unbiased feedback about the progression towards higher level.

Majority of individuals who had difficulties in language, business and leadership proficiency became successful after they were coached with actual strategies, sessions, and workshops that helped them acquired the needed competency for their business and personal goals.

As always your comments and insights are welcomed and will be appreciated.

Conversational Communication Challenges Can Be Resolved with Bold Decision

“Many hear the sounds of enunciated words and phrases influenced heavily by the mother tongue instead of listening to the meaningful essence of what is being communicated.” – Terrenal

Here is a personal question for yourself.

Is any of the following illustrated my inabilities, deficiencies or frustrations today or may be in the past?

  • I have poor verbal and written communication skills
  • Inability to articulate myself to my peers at work and outside work because I do not speak the English language well
  • I am a Team Leader but has issues in communicating verbally and effectively with my team members
  • I cannot advanced myself in my career as I felt my communication skills are not proficient
  • I lack leadership skills and wanted to accomplish more results
  • I always find myself below par when engaged in conversational topics with friends
  • I have been to numerous interviews but cannot land the job due to my communication skills and conversational inabilities
  • When explaining something to others I was always searching for the right words or phrases
  • Speaking in front of others is always been my problem, I always read my powerpoint line by line when I present and cannot articulate additional information that were not listed in the presentation
  • At numerous occasions, I’ve been tasked to relate with Excel Spreadsheets but don’t have any knowledge of using it
  • I went to school and learned English but I cannot express myself conversationally like other English speakers, however I can write my ideas well
  • I have been living in the United States for few years but still cannot speak English well, I have also attended many ESL classes at various centers
  • I am new in the area and working for a technology company, however my English is very limited

What can you do?
For someone who experienced any of the above listed ‘facts’, that were frustrating conversational issues, difficulties of demonstrating communicative efficiency with team members, co-workers, with friends and acquaintances. It is highly suggested to give oneself a new personal development and gain better competency, achieve more progress in the near future and be BOLD.
It is also a fact, that there are many (individuals or organizations) that discriminate those who do not communicate well. “Many hear the sound of enunciated words and phrases influenced heavily by the mother tongue instead of listening to the meaningful essence of what is being communicated.” – said  J. Terrenal.

To remedy those challenges, learn the real Conversational English Competency through the help of an experienced Coach in Communication, Linguistics, Business and Leadership. This type of Coach integrates the whole self of the learner’s backgrounds, difficulties and future endeavors for success.

We like to hear your experiences and thoughts. Please share them to us and we always appreciate your inputs. Thank you.

Selling Oneself during Conversations and Interviews

As candidate for a specific position, you must know your abilities. Be confident that you bring your technical skills and professional competencies to the employer’s business. When given that chance and moment, you will take advantage of the situation and discuss the problems and challenges they were facing but not to inquire about jobs, and show them your enthusiasm to bring in additional revenue through your effectiveness. This scenario will turn into your favor as a candidate. In addition, knowing what is outside the interviewing room is equally crucial piece of information for making your personal or professional decision to join the organization. You have the right to inquire in equal footing to their right of screening you.
Candidates must NOT work with recruiters or representatives with bad practices:

Your goal as a candidate is to screen out those organizations that do not demonstrate good recruitment and hiring practices. Be watchful of common bad practices; such as oftentimes requested an updated resume but never get any follow up from the Requester. Nor they send any acknowledgement, or communicate back with candidates after initial conversations. They do not send a feedback of the status of the application. They send a reply to candidates after 3 months from date of application. Conducted an interview either by phone or in person, but did not send any updates beyond ten days. All of these common bad practices within the recruitment and staffing arena are giving a bad name to the industry where real professionals do their work at best. Create a database of people you have spoken with regards to jobs and do not communicate with them again if they do not practice good business and communication. They are not a good source of information about opportunities.

Make your competencies as your assets:
Your competencies will demonstrate your abilities to do the job. Having the proficiency in speaking and conversationally engage with the Interviewing Team or Panel, this will open the doors of opportunity for you.
Highlight your technical skills, illustrate through effective conversations your proficiency in communicating about your ideas and abilities to perform the job.
Create your portfolio that will speak about yourself and discuss strongly how you can solve many of the issues that the company are going through. Put currency value to your efforts and business plan. Present that ROI and they will extend you an offer letter without blinking. Must illustrate your capabilities as validated by experiences that were undeniably effective with ROI and results-driven.
Have your References talk and discuss about your qualities as an individual, a team partner, leader, or part of an effective team. However, be mindful do not give your List of References to a recruiter to contact until you have a face to face interview and been extended a verbal offer.
Do you have difficulties with persuasive conversations?
The American Coaches of Ideas N Conversations can help you develop and advance your interviewing skills and become conversationally savvy. Your proficiency to articulate your skills and competencies will influence the hiring decision.
If you like to get Hired contact +1 (650) 241-3207 and discuss your difficulties and learn many ways to become effective during the interviewing process. If you help yourself you will get what you like to have and others do not give you that unless you can demonstrate.

Role of English Language in the Conversation – Acquire Proficiency

Language play an important role in the midst of conversation among members of the society. It will help in the formation of concepts, ideas, feelings and thoughts.  When you think of  a concept, you are using an imaginative skills but when you share that concept or idea to another individual, you will need a verbal form of the language to communicate your concept or idea.

English is a major language that is used in the United States and other English speaking countries around the world. It is also a major language that is used for business communication globally across cultures. English is a native language in the United States while it is learned as a second or third language of other language speakers at non-English speaking countries.

Speaking in English is quite a challenge, specially when it is not your mother tongue. People from other parts of the globe who live in an English speaking country learn how to communicate in English. They acquire certain degree of proficiency in order to communicate effectively their thoughts, feelings and ideas.

There are however big differences between the spoken and written forms of English. Many who learned English as their Second or Third language from a foreign country, they acquired grammatically-based knowledge and proficiency.  When they start speaking in a grammatically-based conversation, the native speakers are challenged when comprehending their utterances because the latter did not learn the grammatical syntax when speaking.

Conversational English was never the focus of learning English in most foreign countries. One reason why many people who learned English in their countries can write and read effectively but not in speaking.
